Greer Touchdown Club Ready for Another Great Year

Club dedicated to supporting area football programs.

The Greer Touchdown Club is ready for another season of supporting area football. The Club had its first meeting of the 2013 season Thursday afternoon. The area's high school football coaches gave previews of their first games at the meeting. See the Sports section of Greer-Taylors Patch to find out what they had to say.

“This is going to be a great year,” said club President Steven Gay. “I don't think there's anything else in the area that matches what we have here. We hear that from everybody, that we're able to come here, listen to our coaches in this area and honor the Players of the Week and their families every Thursday through football season. It's a great thing.”

Gay said the club is going to add something special this year to its weekly honoring of the Players of the Week.

“We're going to try to have some video highlights of our Players of the Week, defensive” Gay said. “It's just a little added thing, something different, to make those Players of the Week feel better about being here, wanting to come with their families, to recognize them a little more than we already do.”

The club is also looking for sponsors for the weekly meetings.

“It helps out financially,” Gay said.

It costs $100 to sponsor a meeting.

“That gets you a T-shirt … and it gives you a five-minute presentation about your business, whatever you want to do,” Gay said.

The Greer Touchdown Club does a weekly Pick'em Contest.

“It's an ongoing thing,” Gay said. “It's a dollar donation for the Pick'em Contest. At the end of the year, we donate that to a charity or Greer Relief or something like that, the money we raise for that every week.”

There are prizes for the Best Picker and the Worst Picker every week.

“At the end of the year, there's a prize for the yearly winner,” Gay said.

Memberships are $30 per year, and may be purchased at any of the weekly meetings. Price for lunch, catered by The Clock Restaurant, are $8 for members, and $10 for guests.
