ReplyIt's great that the state is creating a division to focus on illegal immigration, but we need to remember that immigration is a federal issue and we need to focus our frustration and efforts on Washington to do their job instead of wasting valuable SC tax dollars pretending we can actually do anything significant on illegal immigration on the state level.

ReplyHarry, well on Dec. 24th, the Jewish readers of the Patch were on the 4th day of Hanukkah, the Wiccan and Pagan readers had celebrated the Winter Solstice 2 days before, the readers with ties to Britain celebrate Boxing Day 2 days from the date of the article, with Kwanzaa also celebrated that same day. Of course, all of us will be ringing in the New Year a little over a week later. SO I guess, Christmas, my favorite holiday of the year, is not the only holiday celebrated near Dec. 24th.

ReplyI like the last thing said on this clip, "Anybody but Obama." Sad that someone can so dislike a candidate to assume that anyone is better, regardless of their experience, values, positions, etc.

ReplyJoe, sorry, but innocent until proven guilty i snot a farce or old wive's tale. It is real and the fundamental basis of our legal system. Are there times that it is violated, sure, just like anything else, but it is still in force and needs to remain and this new provision is a direct assault on it.

ReplyJoe, so if I understand you correctly, if a person is accused of being a terrorist, they lose their rights, even if that person is an American? No, I am not "suggesting" that you can be an American and a member of Al Quaeda, I am outright saying it as there have been at least 4 American citizens that the US government has either captured or killed. also, the bill Sen Graham voted for, did not specify a specific terrorist group.

ReplyJoe,
Actually, you don't lose your rights if you rob a bank. You lose your rights after you are convicted of robbing a bank. The key is a person loses their some of their rights after they are legally convicted of wrong doing, not when someone accuses them, or says they did something wrong. It is currently against the law and the Constitution to hold an American in custody indefinitely without charging them and then trying them. What Sen. Graham voted for would turn our Constitutionally protected freedoms upside down! -

Seeing the thousands of people who came out today to honor Pfc. Whitmire was amazing. I was so proud of the Upstate. The focus today was on a hero and his family!
