Greenville County Candidates Hit Stretch Run Of Petition Campaigns

Tommie Reece, whose name was kicked off the ballot just three days before the June 12 primary, is among those trying to get on the general election ballot.

There was a buzz of activity Tuesday at 800 East Washington Street, where part of Tommie Reece's small army of supporters were working feverishly to get enough registered voters in the district to sign a petition to put Reece back on the ballot in the general election in November.  Reece was kicked off the ballot just three days before the June 12 primary because she didn't file her statement of economic interest form at the same time she officially filed for candidacy of the Senate 6 seat currently held by incumbent Mike Fair.  Hundreds of other candidates across the state suffered a similar fate after the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that those who did not file the paperwork simultaneously could not be certified, even though in …
