Gamecocks' Roth Up For SEC Honor

Greer native has been nominated for a post-graduate scholarship.

Greer native and star Gamecock baseball player Michael Roth has been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship.  Besides being the University of South Carolina's ace pitcher and a two-time national champion, Roth is also about to graduate with a degree in international business and marketing, and also spent his spare time visiting children at various elementary schools and hospitals, as well as helping to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes. School For Special Needs Children Raising Scholarship Money

Hidden Treasure Christian School will have its annual Walk Fest this Saturday.

This Saturday, children at the Hidden Treasure Christian School in Taylors will take part in an annual event aimed at helping defray tuition costs for the special school. Hidden Treasure is aimed at educating children with special needs, such as down syndrome, pervasive development disorders, autism, cerebral palsy and various learning and mental disabilities. On Saturday, the 14th annual Walk Fest will be held at the school's campus at 500 West Lee Road. The  2 p.m. walk itself around the campus will be preceded by a festival starting at 10 a.m.  "We are a school specifically for special needs.
