Graham: Benghazi a Case of 'Political Manipulation'

Suggests November election results might have been different.

Lindsey Graham learned a long time ago that a politician who tries to please everyone doesn’t stay a politician for long. He’s the rare elected official who can infuriate and pander to the same group of people within a matter of minutes. Considering he is up for re-election next year, it might seem prudent for Graham to dial back the rhetoric, but if Monday is any indication that won’t be happening any time soon. That Graham, the one who sounds ready to impeach Barack Obama as quickly as he would talk fiscal policy with the President over dinner, was on full display during a session with the media in Greenville.  On Benghazi “We still don’t know who changed the talking points, but they were unconnected to reality on the ground,” Graham …

SC Reps Taking Center Stage on Benghazi

Gowdy and Graham at forefront of Congressional investigation.

Members of South Carolina's Congressional delegation have been front and center in the ongoing inquiry into the terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya on September 11 of last year. Sen. Lindsey Graham has been a persistent critic of the Obama Administration's response to the attacks, beginning not long after they occurred. He appeared on MSNBC on Wednesday morning and said that the administration has been trying to "spin" the response to Benghazi (see accompanying video). As a member of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-4), was one of the lead questioners during Wednesday's hearings (see accompanying video). In January, Reps. Jeff Duncan (R-3) and Joe Wilson (R-2) gained headlines for their tough questioning of outgoing …

DeMint and Clyburn Feted While Cruz and Biden Stir 2016 Talk

Republicans and Democrats have one of their biggest weekend of the year.

The annual fundraising dinners of the Republican and Democratic Parties had plenty in common this year. Both honored longtime advocates for the respective causes and both attracted speakers that generated buzz about the 2016 Presidential race. The Democrats’ Jefferson-Jackson Dinner drew its largest crowd ever and Vice President Joe Biden to honor Rep. Jim Clyburn for his 20 years of service in Congress. Biden acknowledged that his appearance at the event was sure to fuel speculation about his intentions in 2016. While giving lengthy tributes to Clyburn and former Sen. Fritz Hollings, Biden delivered a full-throated defense of traditional Democratic issues. He decried the Republicans war on the middle class and poor, in addition to citing …

Lindsey Graham Compares Boston Bombings to Benghazi, Blames Obama

Senator says both a result of radical Islam.

Speaking to reporters in Washington on Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham linked the attack on the US Embassy in Libya in September 2012 to the Boston Marathon bombing. "Our systems are failing, we're going backwards," Graham said. "Bin Laden may be dead, but the war against radical Islam is very much alive," said Graham. "Radical Islam is on the March and we need to up our game." See video of Graham's remarks here. Graham also gave a lengthier interview to Anderson Cooper of CNN and laid some of the blame for the Boston attacks at the feet of the administration of Barack Obama. Lindsey Graham at Center of How Bombing Suspect to be Treated

Senator wants him labeled an enemy combatant.

Since the suspects in the Boston Marathon Bombings were identified and then, on Friday evening, apprehended, Sen. Lindsey Graham has been at the center of the subsequent legal fight regarding the surviving suspect's standing. The White House announced on Monday that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev would not be treated as an enemy combatant. Unlike his older brother Tamerlan, who was killed on Thursday evening after a firefight with law enforcement, Dzhokhar is an American citizen. After Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested on Friday evening, Graham took to social media to urge President Obama to treat Tsarnaev as an enemy combatant. On Monday, Graham gave a speech from Washington, DC that outlined his position in more detail (see video above). Initial reports…

Attached to the end of a conventional shotgun magazine is, the magazine end cap. By replacing this with an X-Rail, one effectively adds four extra magazine extensions to the existing mag tube, each of which is rotated into place by a spring. As a mag extension is emptied, a full one is automatically indexed into position. All up, the device gives the user the option of 22+1 capacity; by …   more ›

Lindsey Graham: Treat Boston Bombing Suspect as Enemy Combatant

The second suspect was captured around 9 p.m. Friday.

While the nation followed the manhunt for the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings, the political ramifications were already beginning. On his Twitter feed Sen. Lindsey Graham drew criticism for suggesting that the suspect be treated as an enemy combatant and not be granted his Miranda rights. When the second bombing suspect was captured in Watertown around 9 p.m. Friday, intelligence experts and media said there was no way the suspect would not be given his Miranda rights. The Obama Administration has a clear policy of treating suspects on American soil with the normal judicial process, they said. Treating the suspect as a combatant would allow intelligence officers to get more information from him. "If the Boston suspect has ties…

"Butters" is probably the biggest pr*ck in the Senate, surpassing even our own John McCain here in AZ...there's nothing so small he won't use it to go after the Obama administration...if Obama gives in to this and does try him as an "enemy combatant" it will be another great disappointment to me and the rest of Americans who have some hope for a Democracy here in the US of A.   more ›

Georgia Billboard Directs Undocumented Immigrants to South Carolina

Sponsoring group says Lindsey Graham 'wants more immigrants."

A billboard in suburban Atlanta encourages undocumented immigrants to move to South Carolina. The sign directs people to call Sen. Lindsey Graham’s office and urges people to "Help us stop the RubiObamaAmnesty," a reference to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) and President Barack Obama. Graham is mentioned because he is been one of the leaders in calling for immigration and has received support from many in the business community. On the bottom of the billboard is a link to a story that appeared on Easley Patch in February. Graham spoke at length about immigration at an appearance at the Easley Rotary Club and one of his quotes--"a shortage of labor"--is referenced in the billboard. The billboard is paid for by the Dustin Inman Society, which …

Gun Legislation Approved Unanimously in Senate Committee

Legislation has bi-partisan support.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would “prohibit a person adjudicated mentally incapacitated or committed to a mental institution from possessing or acquiring a handgun.” Senate Bill 413 will now move to the full Senate for debate. The measure has been backed by bi-partisan groups including State Attorney General Alan Wilson, Rep. Leon Stavrinakis (D – Charleston) and the NRA. It is also similar to legislation proposed by Sen. Lindsey Graham. The bill the committee approved was not done so without lengthy debate. People who are so judged are put on a list that is part of a national database and the lawmakers wondered how someone got off that list once they were on it. There were some …

In Protest of Sequestration Lindsey Graham To Donate 20% of Salary

Joins several other high-ranking federal employees.

Sen. Lindsey Graham has been one of the few Republicans to oppose the sequestration, the budget cuts that have cost thousands of federal employees and federal contractors their jobs, including many here in South Carolina. Many federal employees are being furloughed the equivalent of 20 percent of their pay. In support of those works and to protest the so-called “meat-cleaver” approach to budgeting that is the sequestration, Graham announced that he will donate 20 percent of his salary. Graham had suggested that all senators join him and many have. So far, the only Republican to do so has been Mike Lee of Utah. The annual salary of a U.S. Senator is $174,000 before taxes. Under the 27th Amendment, Graham is required to be paid, so he will …
