Greenville Recreation District Newsletter

Here are the latest announcements from the Greenville Rec, headquartered in Taylors.

Hockey Clinic  The Pavilion and the GreaterGreenville Hockey Association will be hosting more Try Hockey For Free Clinics throughout the season. The next event is Saturday, December 15th, from 11:30am-12:45pm and is for kids ages 4-10. Pre-registration is required. For more information, click here. This is a great opportunity to try youth hockey with no commitment.  Please forward this email to anyone you know who may be interested in having their child try hockey. December 8 & 9: Christmas on Ice at the Pavilion - 6pm Students from the Pavilion skating school will entertain you skating to tunes of Dolly Pardon, Trisha Yearwood, and more in their version of a Country Christmas. Bring a new unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots drive and receive free admission to the 8pm public skating session after the show. The show is free of charge. December 9: Slater Hall Christmas Reception - 4pm The annual Slater Christmas Parade ends at historic Slater Hall Community Center for float judging and a reception hosted by the Slater Hall Citizen's Committee. This event continues a community tradition that dates back to the early 1900's when Slater Mill employees received holiday fruit baskets from the mill. All are …

September 1:  Victoria Humphries Day at the Waterparks The Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the Humphries family are launching a new program called the Guard Your Life Challenge to promote safe driving.  The Sheriff's Office will have interactive displays on hand including a helicopter and their mobile command vehicle.  A portion of all waterpark and Westside Aquatic admissions will help support this effort.  Click here for more information.  September 8: Waggin' in the Waterpark at Discovery Island September 22: Waggin' in the Waterpark at Otter Creek The dogs have wagged their tails all summer in anticipation of these annual dips at the waterparks. Half-Price Deal Offered For Water Parks

Through Groupon.com, you can purchase passes at Greenville Rec water facilities for the remainder of the water park season.

It may be late summer, but if you're still looking for a way to cool down, there are deals to be had that can do just that.  Through GroupOn.com, the Greenville Recreation District is offering special half-off prices for passes for the remainder of the season.  The options are:  - $29 for a season pass to 7th Inning Splash in Piedmont, a $59 value.  - $44 for a season pass to Otter Creek in Greenville, an $89 value - $44 for a season pass to Discovery Island in Simpsonville, an $89 value - $69 for an annual Rec'n Crew unlimited access pass to all of the waterparks, as well as the bounce house and ice-skating rink at The Pavilion in Taylors

Greenville Rec Water Parks To Open This Summer With New Regulations

New, stricter safety requirements are being implemented this summer in light of last year's near-drownings.

Water parks operated by the Greenville County Recreation District will open up May 19, and this summer the visitors who swim in them will be subject to new enhanced safety requirements.  According to the Greenville Rec web site, any children under 42 inches tall must now wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, and be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.  "This includes swimmers, non-swimmers, and infants. Life jackets will be provided on a first-come first-served basis at each park," the statement reads.  Customers are allowed to bring their own life jackets if they are Coast Guard-approved devices.  The announcement comes in light of last year's eventful summer at Greenville Rec pools, especially Otter Creek Water Park …

The Pavilion at the Greenville Recreation District facility in Taylors offers daily public ice skating hours.

Taylors Patch was at The Pavilion on Sunday, where dozens of children stopped by to skate with their families and friends.   The Pavilion offers daily public ice skating hours: Monday 1:30 a.m - 1 p.m. Tuesday 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. 1:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. (Adults Only) Wednesday 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. 1:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. (Adults Only) Friday 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Saturday 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Sunday 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
