VIDEO: St. Francis Eastside Celebrates Earth Day, Energy Star Certification

St. Francis Eastside Hospital, part of the Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, celebrated Earth Day awareness while also officially announcing its becoming South Carolina's first Energy Star certified hospital.

There was a party of sorts going on Tuesday in the main courtyard at the St. Francis Eastside campus near Taylors. Media and hospital staff alike gathered at the hospital as St. Francis Eastside celebrated both awareness of Earth Day, and in the same vein, the hospital's Energy Star certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. System-Wide, Bon Secours st. Francis Health System's cumuulative savings in energy costs exceed $1.1 million. Since joining the Energy Star program in 2006, St. Francis Eastside increased its Energy Star rating from 32 to 84 by managing energy strategically throughout the facility, including an 85-percent reduction in HVAC-relaced service calls.

How can you celebrate Earth Day each day?

Today is Earth Day. It's the one day dedicated to increasing the awareness and appreciation of all things in the environment. The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970. Here are some things recommended by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to help leave the earth, better than you found it.
