Clemson Ranked 6th in Preseason Football Poll

The Athlon Sports rating is the highest yet this preseason for the Tigers, who are expected to crack the top 10 in most preseason polls now coming out.

Football season is months away, but it's never too early to dream, especially in the Palmetto State. The Clemson Tigers are expected to crack the top 10 in most college football preseason polls. On Wednesday, they received their highest preseason ranking of the year so far, coming in at sixth in a ranking by Athlon Sports. Meanwhile, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks are expected to crack Athlon's top-five preseason picks when the remainder of the poll is rolled out between now and May 28. Like the Tigers, USC also is expected to crack the top 10 in all if not most preseason polls. Though dark horses, both teams are being considered as possible BCS title contenders. Eastside's Erwin Named 3A Coach of Year

Kyle Van Hoff, a pitcher and center fielder for the Eagles, has been named to the All-State Team.

Eagle pride surrounds Eastside High School Tuesday afternoon as a coach and a student are honored by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association. Scott Erwin, the school's head baseball coach, has been named the 3A Coach of the Year. Erwin said he was both stunned and shocked when he learned about the honor. "I'm very, very pleased," Erwin said during a phone interview. "I didn't know until about an hour ago. People started sending me messages to congratulate me. They had heard before I had." Erwin, who has coached at the school for 15 years and served as head coach for 13, said he is very proud of his baseball team this year. "They're the reason for this," Erwin said. "They're out there putting in the hard work for me." The Eagles …

Teen, 16, Charged In Friday Bus Incidents in Blue Ridge Area

Greenville County Sheriff's Office during the course of investigation were able to identify the person responsible for disrupting bus service by Greenville County Schools.

A 16-year-old male has been charged with two incidents involving school buses Friday in Blue Ridge. The two Greenville County School buses were delayed after the drivers reported objects hitting the buses as they drove on Highway 414 in Landrum. The school district said that one bus driver thought her bus may have been shot at by someone in a passing vehicle, after her windshield was shattered. The vehicle was identified as an older model blue Chevrolet pickup truck. The juvenile was released into the custody of his father. No injuries were reported during these incidents.

Eastside Dancer Wins National Award

Mireille Fehler, a junior at Eastside and a student at The Fine Arts Center, has been selected as a winner of the 2013 NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award.

An Eastside student has danced her way to a national award. Mireille Fehler, a junior at Eastside and a student at The Fine Arts Center, has been selected as a winner of the 2013 NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award by the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Fehler was judged based on artistic merit, leadership and academic achievement. Jan Woodward, a dance instructor at The Fine Arts Center, was recognized for outstanding teaching, leadership, and guidance.

Eastside Coach: 'Bad Luck' Cost Eagles 3A TItle

A late handball gave Hilton Head the only shot it needed to snatch victory in state title match.

The look on Eastside senior Mitchell Lawson's face said it all. He knew where he was standing — in the goalie box. He knew what the referee's whistle meant — the handball had been spotted. And with precious few minutes remaining in a scoreless 3A state title match, it appeared he knew what was coming next — a Chris MacMurray penalty kick would give Hilton Head a 1-0 victory and state title. Just a couple minutes after, after the final whistle but before hands have been shaken and medals or trophies had been awarded, Lawson headed to the parking lot. But he soon returned with senior Seth Greer and coach Nomar Rodriguez. Rodriguez told Lawson not to let the "bad luck" ruin his high school career and all of the good of it. Lawson was where he…

Greer Fans Got A Glimpse of 'Boys of Fall'

The Yellow Jackets spring game was held Saturday at Dooley Field.

Fans of the Greer Yellow Jackets got a sneak peek at next year's football team. Greer held its annual spring game Saturday at Dooley Field. The team has 11 starters returning for the season. The Yellow Jackets will open the 2013-14 season on the road Aug. 23 at Seneca High School. The first home game will be Aug. 30.

Driver Thought Someone Shot at School Bus in Blue Ridge Area

Greenville County Schools said that two buses in the Blue Ridge area were delayed because of rocks being thrown at the buses.

Two of Greenville County Schools' buses were delayed Friday after the drivers reported objects hitting the buses. The incidents happened Friday afternoon in the Blue Ridge area. The school district said that one bus driver thought her bus may have been shot at by someone in a passing vehicle, after her windshield was shattered. The district said that 14 students from Blue Ridge High and Blue Ridge Middle were on that bus. No one was injured. A second driver then reported something thrown at her bus in the same area. The district contacted the Greenville County Sheriff's Office for assistance. Eastside Girls to Play in 3A State Championship Friday

Eastside Girls Soccer team hopes to bring home the state 3A title Friday. The Eagles will play Hilton Head at 5 p.m. at Gilbert High School. Eastside beat Greenville Monday to secure a spot in the title game. "We just want to have a good showing and represent the Upstate," Coach Andy Robinson told Greer-Taylors Patch earlier this week. "It's going to come down to who wants it most and who makes the fewest mistakes." Can't make to the game?
