Greer Unveils First Public Art Project Tuesday

The City of Greer gifted $10,000 to the Greer Cultural Arts Council to commission the first piece.

The City of Greer and the Greer Cultural Arts Council will unveil the first piece of public art funded by the city at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cannon Centre, 204 Cannon St.

Last year, the City of Greer gifted $10,000 to the Arts Council to commission the first work.

The sculpture incorporates elements of the arts council's logo and its motto, "Reaching for the Stars."

According to the city, Wade Hampton High graduates Jacob Maxy and Derrick Francis and students in the welding program at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center, took on the sculpture project as a SkillsUSA community project.

The dedication will precede the first "Tall Tales Tuesday" storytelling event in the Cannon Centre. Mayor Rick Danner will share the first story of the series, which is co-sponsored by the City of Greer and GCAC.
