Greer, Greenville General Face Off in American Legion Playoffs

Friday's game against the Greenville Generals was postponed and rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Field.

Greer stayed alive in the American Legion baseball playoffs because of the weather and will now try to do it on the field.

Friday’s game against the Greenville Generals was postponed and rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Field with home-team Greer tailing, 2-0, in the best-of-five series.

Greenville took a 9-2 victory Thursday behind the pitching of Kevin Dobbins from Berea High School. Dobbins, who has committed to play at The Citadel, allowed only two hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Greenville (14-3) finished second, behind Greenwood (15-3), in League Seven.

Greenwood plays a decisive fifth game at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gaffney (8-12), the fourth-place team from League Six. Gaffney was one game behind Greer, which is now 7-11.

The second round of the playoffs is scheduled to begin Monday, with the winner of Greenville and Greer taking on the winner of Lancaster and Dalzell in another five-game series.
