Eastside Forward Named AAA State Basketball Player Of The Year

Junior Davaris McGowens has also been named to the All-Region and All-State teams.

Eastside High School, ranked No. 1 in the state in the AAA class heading into its first round playoff game with Walhalla, announced this week that its star forward, Davaris McGowens, had been named the state's top player.

The 6 foot, 5 inch, 230-pound junior forward, who has helped lead the Eastside Eagles to a 23-1 record, with an unblemished Peach Blossom region record and a No. 1 ranking, was named the AAA Player of the Year by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

McGowens, who also played defensive line for the Eagles' football team last season, averages 18.5 points per game, and also leads the team in rebounds.
