Wade Hampton Advances To Upper State Final

Eastside High's dream season ends after loss to Southside.

Poor perimeter shooting and an inability to make key stops doomed the No. 1 Eastside Eagles in the Upper State semifinals on Tuesday, as EHS dropped a 62-52 decision to Southside.

Cross-town rival Wade Hampton, which won the state championship last year with an undefeated record, advanced to the Upper State Final with a close 53-51 win over Berea.

The Generals are now a win away from returning to the state finals — a trip some considered unlikely after most of WHHS's starting five graduated from the 2011 state championship team.

Southside, which had lost the two regular season match-ups against Eastside, controlled the Eagles the majority of the game, running up a double digit lead most of the game.

Southside and Wade Hampton will play each other in the Upper State final at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bi-Lo Center. The winner will play in the state championship game against the winner of Lower Richland and Hartsville.
