USC Upstate Announces Scholarships

Dozens of incoming freshmen students are receiving academic scholarships at USC Upstate in Spartanburg.

The University of South Carolina Upstate recently announced incoming freshman students who have received various academic scholarships.  

Valedictorian Scholarships

Valedictorian Scholarships are $7,500 annual scholarships for boarding students and $3,500 annual scholarships for commuting students that are awarded to entering freshman who meet the following criteria:  ranked first in their class at the time of admission to the University or upon high school graduation.  In addition, Valedictorian Scholars must present a minimum SAT score of * 1,100 or ACT score of 24.

  • Kharisma Brown of Estill received the Valedictorian Scholarship. Brown graduated from Estill High School in May where she was involved with Varsity Basketball and Volleyball, Ladies of Distinction, FCCLA and Color Guard and Drill Team. She is the daughter of Lela and Darrien Brown.

  • Katlyn McCullough of Spartanburg received the Valedictorian Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing.  McCullough graduated from Westgate Christian School in May where she was involved with Beta Club, Volleyball and Girl Scouts. She is the daughter of Tammy and Larry McCullough.

 

Chancellor Scholarships 

Chancellor Scholarships are $7,500 annual scholarships for boarding students and $3,500 annual scholarships for commuting students that are awarded to entering freshmen who meet the following criteria: present a minimum SAT I score of *1,300 or ACT score of 29, rank in the top 10% of their high school class and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75.

  • Kiersten H. James of Gaffney received the Chancellor Scholarship and she plans to pursue a business with a concentration in accounting. James graduated from Gaffney High School in May where she was involved with Camellia Society, Beta Club, L’Etoile Club and Varsity Volleyball. She is the daughter of Kateena and Alan James.

 

  • Yuliya Pigulko of Inman received the Chancellor Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in biology/pre-pharmacy. Pigulko graduated from Boiling Springs High School in May where she was involved with National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Beta Club and Junior Marshall. She is the daughter of Lynbor and Vladimir Pigulko.

 

University Scholars

University Scholarships are $2,500 scholarships that are awarded annually to entering freshmen who meet the following criteria: present a minimum SAT I score of 1,200 or ACT score of 27, rank in top 20% of their high school class and minimum GPA of 3.5.

 

  • Jasmine Coleman of Lancaster received the University Scholars Award and she plans to major in pre-law. Coleman graduated from Lancaster High School where she was involved with the Beta Club, French Club, Ramblerand was junior class president. She is the daughter of Jamie Faile.

 

  • Bethany Davies of Spartanburg received the University Scholars Award and she plans to major in pre-medicine. Davies is a graduate of Spartanburg High School and the daughter of Rick. Davies.

 

  • Ali Highducheck of Inman received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in biology. Highducheck graduated from Chapman High School where she was involved with National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Club, and Dance Club. She is the daughter of Christine and Kevin Highducheck.

 

  • Elizabeth Ledford of Campobello received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of Chapman High School, Ledford was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. She is the daughter of Linda and Scott Ledford.

 

  • Kelsey Lea Mankins of Boiling Springs received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, Mankins was a Junior Marshall, Junior Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Sandy and Rocky Mankins.

 

  • Samantha Medley of Gaffney Springs received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in accounting. A graduate of Gaffney High School, Medley was a Junior Marshall and a member of the Beta Club. She is the daughter of Susan and Randall Tindall.

 

  • Alfonso Quistian of Chesnee received the University Scholars Award and he plans to pursue a degree in computer science. A graduate of Chesnee High School, Quistian was a Junior Scholar and played J.V. football. He is the son of Alejandro Quistian.

 

  • Kirsten Shehan of Boiling Springs received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in elementary education. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, Shehan was involved with Beta Club and National Honor Society. She is the daughter of DeAnne and Stephen Shehan.

 

  • Kali Lyn Shrader of Inman received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in psychology. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, Shrader was involved with Beta Club, National Honors Society, National Society of High School Scholars, and Marching Band. She is the daughter of Gina and David Shroder.

 

  • Jasmine Shull of Elgin received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in graphic design. A graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School, Shull was involved with Beta Club, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Key Club, and Future Educators Association. She is the daughter of Tricia and James Shull.

 

  • Joseph Stokes of Simpsonville received the University Scholars Award and he plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of Greenville Tech Charter High School, Stokes is the son of Beverly and David Stokes.

 

  • Rachel Trueblood of Inman Springs received the University Scholars Award and she plans to pursue a degree in education. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, Trueblood was involved with Beta Club, Drama Club, Concert Choir, and Senior Board. She is the daughter of Dara Trueblood and Michael Trueblood.

 

 

Metropolitan Scholarships

Metropolitan Scholarships are $1,500 scholarships that are awarded annually to entering freshmen who meet the following criteria: present a minimum SAT I score of *1,100 or ACT score of 24, rank in top 30% of their high school class and minimum GPA of 3.25. 

 

  • Lexie Acquaviva of Moore received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in chemistry. A graduate of James F. Byrnes High School, Acquaviva, is the daughter of Lynn and Sam Acquaviva.

 

  • Kathryn Albert of Gaffney Moore received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in pre-dental. She graduated from Gaffney High School and is the daughter of Donna and Bobby Albert.
  • Maranda Adkins of Landrum Florida received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of Landrum High School, Adkins was involved with the Spartanburg County Foundation Citizen Scholar program and Foothills AmeriCorps. She is the daughter of Laura and Eric Reid.

 

  • Sarah Vande Berg of Zephyrhills, Florida received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in biology. A graduate of Zephyrhills High School, Berg was involved with National Honor Society, tennis, Key Club, and Student Government. She is the daughter of Todd and Charla Vande Berg.

 

  • Aaron Christopher Brown of Chesnee received the Metropolitan Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in pre-engineering. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, he was involved with National Honor Society and Beta Club. He is the son of Sherri and Dennis Brown.

 

  • Clayton Campbell of Pacolet received the Metropolitan Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in pre-pharmacy. A graduate of Chesnee High School, Campbell was involved with Beta Club, National Honors Society, Senior Hall of Fame, and All-American Football Team. He is the son of Billie and Dale Campbell.

 

  • Clint Marsh Coursey, Jr. of Inman received the Metropolitan Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in biology. A graduate of Chapman High School, he was involved with National Honor Society and Beta Club. He is the son of Holly and David Thackston.

 

  • Erin E. Curtis of Blythewood received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in secondary education (biology). A graduate of Blythewood High School, she received a National Achievement Scholarship and National Spanish Exam Bronze Medal. She is the daughter of Virginia and Donald Curtis.

 

  • India Gaines of Columbia received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in pre-pharmacy. A graduate of Ridge View High School, Gaines was involved with National Technical Honor Society and Allied Health Services. She is the daughter of Cordelia Cooper.

 

  • Chandler Page Galloway of Easley Pacolet received the Metropolitan Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in business. A graduate of Pickens High School, he was involved with Beta Club, Interact Club and Spanish Honors Society. He is the son of Dawn and Jeff Galloway.

 

  • Kaitlyn Gilbert of Fremont, Wisconsin received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in pre-physician’s assisting. A graduate of Weyauwega-Fremont High School, Gilbert was involved with Track and Field, Cross Country, FFA, and Honors Band. She is the daughter of Susan Gilbert.

 

  • Michael Haithcoch of Sumter received the Metropolitan Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in computer science. A graduate of Crestwood High School, he was in the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. He is the son of Irma Stroker.

 

  • Matthew Todd Hill of Campobello Sumter received the Metropolitan Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in commercial music. A graduate of Landrum High School, he was in AmericaCorps and played basketball. He is the son of Valerie Dukes and Bobby Hill.

 

  • Sherry Kay Kears of Simpsonville received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of Mauldin High School, Kearns was involved with cross country, environmental club, and student ministry. She is the daughter of Tammy Caldwell.

 

  • Hannah James Ker of Cayce received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in middle level education. A graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School, Ker was an Honor Guard, National Honor Society Member, and Junior Marshall. She is the daughter of Darlene and James Ker.

 

  • Allison Lindsey of Lyman received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in elementary education. A graduate of James F. Byrnes High School, she was involved with the Spanish National Honors Society. She is the daughter of Ruth and Tony Lindsey.

 

  • Caroline Anna McIntire of Jonesville received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in biology. A graduate of South Carolina Connections Academy, McIntire graduated with highest honors and was a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Mary Jo and Frank McIntire.

 

  • Allison Walker of Inman received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in middle school education (math and science). A graduate of Chapman High School, she was involved with National Honor Society, Beta Club, Band, and Student Council. She is the daughter of Tammy and Rex Walker.

 

  • Amanda Jordan White of Greer received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in psychology. She graduated from Blue Ridge High School and is the daughter of Paula and Scott White.

 

  • Kelsey K. Wright of Union received the Metropolitan Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in biology. A graduate of Union County High School, Wright played soccer. She is the daughter of Kay Wright.

Transfer Scholarships

Transfer Scholarships are $2,000 scholarships that are awarded annually to entering transfer students (coming from two-year colleges) who have earned at least 60 semester hours of transferable credit OR have earned Associate of Arts or Science degrees from an accredited college. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.50. This scholarship is available to the recipient for two academic years. 

 

  • Kaci Marie Dillinger of Pacolet received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. Dillinger is transferring from USC Union. She is the daughter of Scarlette and Tim Dillinger.

 

  • Michael O. Eaves of Whitmire received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in chemistry. Eaves is transferring from USC Union. He is the son of Mondole Eaves.

 

  • Charles Fanteeneall of Union received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship. He is transferring from USC Union and is the son of Barbara and Townsend Gore, Sr.

 

  • Ricky Kelly of Spartanburg received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship. He is transferring from Spartanburg Community College. He is the son of Barbara and Cleo Kelly.

 

  • Jayme S. Lively of Easley received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in early childhood education. She is transferring from Greenville Technical College.

 

  • Rachel Oberlin received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship and she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. She is transferring from Greenville Technical College.

 

  • Khanh Ly Huynh Tran received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in biology (pre-physician assisting). Tran is transferring from Piedmont Technical College.

 

  • Andrew White of Summerville received the USC Upstate Transfer Scholarship and he plans to pursue a degree in interdisciplinary studies. White is transferring from Trident Technical and Greenville Technical College. He is the son of Thomas White.

 

Out-of-State Scholarships

Out-Of-State Scholarship awards $500 for the year and in-state tuition rates to new freshmen who have a 3.0 minimum high school GPA (on 4.0 scale), 1000 on SAT, & rank in top 20% of high school class and to new transfer students who have a 3.25 minimum GPA and a minimum of 60 credit hours.

 

  • Meredith Kate Barnes of Salem, Oregon received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in sociology. A graduate of South Salem High School, Barnes was a Scholar-Athlete, Softball-All League, All Nor-Cal, and State All-Tournament Team. She is the daughter of Susan and Dan Barnes.

 

  • Katlin Danielle Bollinger of Colorado Springs received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in pre-dental. A graduate of Widefield High School, Bollinger was involved with kick boxing and band. She is the daughter of Patricia and Harold Bollinger.

 

  • Lilvia Bradbury of Chickamauga, Georgia received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in biology/pre-veterinary medicine. A graduate of Gordon Lee High School, Bradbury was involved with National Honors Society, Spanish Club, Basketball, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Track and Field. She is the daughter of Judy and John Bradbury.

 

  • Simmie D. Bray of Woodstock, Georgia received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in pre-medicine. A graduate of Etowck High School, Bray was a member of the Beta Club and played volleyball and track and field. He is the son of Latresse and Sammie Bray.

 

  • Chloe Donnelly of Leesburg, Virginia received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in biology. A graduate of Tuscarora High School, Donnelly participated in track, soccer and cross country. She is the daughter of Tracey Franklin and Matt Donnelly.

 

  • Nicole Jones of Kerhonkson, New York received the Out-of-State Scholarship. A graduate of Rondout Valley High School, Jones was a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Stephanie and Steve Gutkin and John Jones.

 

  • Amanda Leyva of Ft. Drum, New York received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in chemistry. A graduate of Carthage High School, Leyva was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Math League, and Varsity Tennis Team. She is the daughter of Martina Leyva and Martin Leyva.

 

  • Robert McIntosh of Cornelius, North Carolina received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in history. A graduate of Lake Norman Charter School, McIntosh played lacrosse and football. He is the son of Ann and Bob McIntosh.

 

  • Anna Miller of Portland, Oregon received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in business. A graduate of Sunset High School, Miller was a member of the Key Club and National Honor Society and played softball, volleyball, and basketball. She is the daughter of Sue and Les Miller.

 

  • Kelly A. Mills of Clayton, New Jersey received the Out-of-State Scholarship. A graduate of Clayton High School, Mills was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and Environmental Club. She played Field Hockey, Basketball, and Track and Field. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and Richard Mills.

 

  • Daniel Seeba of Bowie, Maryland received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in accounting. A graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School, Seeba was named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012 and he played baseball. He is the son of Michele and John Seeba.

 

  • Shannon Weiss of Highland, Illinois received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of Highland High School, Weiss was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honors Society, Varsity Volleyball, and Spanish Club. Shannon’s parents are Cathy and Steve Weiss.

 

  • Jordan Wilson of Belmont, North Carolina Illinois received the Out-of-State Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in nursing. A graduate of South Point High School, Wilson was a National Honors Society Member and a Scholar-Athlete. He is the son of Tracie and Chip Wilson.

 

  • Satchel N. Wiltshire of Durham, North Carolina received the Out-of-State Scholarship. Wiltshire is a graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School where she played soccer. She is the daughter of Pamela and Dennis Wiltshire.
