No. 1 Eastside Tops Dreher, Advances In Playoffs

Eastside will host the winner of Seneca vs. Woodruff on Friday night.

The Eastside Eagles boys basketball team topped Dreher on Tuesday in the first round of the Upper State playoffs.

The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in the state at the AAA level, beat Dreher 85-70, though the top-seeded squad didn't have it easy for much of the game.

Dreher used their length and athleticism to bother the Eagles early on, jumping out to an 11-3 lead in the first quarter. Eastside gradually built a 10-point lead at halftime, but Dreher cut the lead to five points late in the third quarter.

Guard Keil Sherman's three 3-pointers in the second half, along with another strong performance from forward Davaris McGowens, helped the Eagles hold off Dreher the rest of the way.
