Grayson Wins District 17 Seat On School Board

Joy Grayson, a former prosecutor and the only candidate with children in the Greenville County school system, is taking the seat vacated by Tommie Reece.

Joy Grayson will be the new trustee on the Greenville County School board representing District 17, after she defeated Sunny Weigand and tea party candidate Paul Fallavolitta on Tuesday.

Grayson, the only candidate with children actually in the county's school system, ran on a platform of advocating for quality public education for all of the county's children.

"I'm excited about the people in northern Greenville County making education a priority for all children," Grayson said. "I look forward to providing educational excellence for all of our kids."

Grayson, who was the only attendee at several forums in the school board race, said her tough campaigning and passion helped push her over the top.

"I think people recognized my passion, and quite frankly, showing up is half the battle," Grayson said.

Grayson garnered a total of 54 percent of the vote. Weigand received 27 of the vote and Fallavolitta 18 percent.
