Wade Hampton wins rivalry game, tops Eastside in Spirit Week money total as schools combine to raise more than $300,000 for charity.

Thousands of students and parents braved a frigid, rainy fall night Friday to see the culmination of the 2011 Spirit Week at Eastside High School.

's football team routed Eastside in the regular season finale, 42-6 after cruising into halftime up by 22.

Wade Hampton also topped Eastside in charitable giving, with its student body raising $211,759 over the course of the week, compared to Eastside's $130,020.

During the halftime intermission, the results of the were announced. Each year, the two schools select different charities, and compete against each other to see who can raise the most money.

This year, EHS raised money for Project Hope, which supports children with autism. Wade Hampton gave its money to the Pendleton Place Children's Shelter.

The announcement of Wade Hampton's total sent its student council, standing rain-soaked on the field, rushing to the awaiting student body in the stands amid a chorus of joyful screams.
