Eastside's McGowens Repeats As Player Of The Year

Davaris McGowens' senior campaign didn't disappoint.

In 2012, Eastside High School forward Davaris McGowens earned the AAA Player of the Year by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association, averaging 18.5 points per game and leading the team in rebounds.

McGowens didn't duplicate that effort this season - he exceeded it, and in doing so, earned his second straight POY award.

McGowens, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, stepped his scoring average up this season to 24 points per game while also averaging a double-double, as he averages 10 rebounds per contest.

Eastside is 22-3 and ranked No. 1 in the state in the AAA class heading into its second round playoff game with Seneca. McGowens helped lead the Eagles to their second consecutive Peach Blossom Region title. Before last year's Eagles took home the region crown, it had been some 20 years since EHS won region.

Eastside hosts Seneca at 7 p.m. tonight.
