Eastside Basketball Ranked No. 2 In Preseason Poll

Loaded with returning starters, the Eastside Eagles are aiming for a state title after spending much of last year atop the statewide rankings.

Eastside High School and Greer High School are both ranked in the top 10 preseason South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association poll.

Tom Chamness, headed into his 11th year at the helm of the Eastside basketball program, will try to direct his team to a state championship after the Eagles fell short in the Upperstate semifinals a year ago. The Eagles are ranked No. 2 in the state in the preseason poll, second only to Hartsville, which won the state title a year ago.

Eastside, led by 2012 AAA State Player of the Year Davaris McGowens, enjoyed an unexpected rise to power, as the youthful Eagles spent much of the season ranked No. 1 in the state at the AAA level.
