Eagles Take Aim At History Tonight

The Eastside Eagles seeking to bring home its first state basketball title in school history.

Coach Tom Chamness has told his players to "shelf it." 

Eastside's stars say they're not paying attention to it. 

But the "it" is the elephant in the room. "It" is the fact that the Eagles will be within reach Saturday night of the first state basketball title in the school's history.

No. 1 Eastside High School, which last week won its first Upper State Title since Ronald Reagan was president, takes on defending state champs Hartsville, ranked No. 2 in the AAA rankings. 

The Eagles and Red Foxes play at 7 p.m. tonight at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia.

For Hartsville, the game represents a chance to repeat as state champions. 

For Eastside, the game represents a shot at a title years in the making. Going as far back as three years ago, the Eagles were considered by many to have state championship-caliber talent. In 2011, the Eagles were outshined in their own region by Wade Hampton High School, which went on to win the state title in an undefeated season. 

In 2012, the Eagles soared to the top of the AAA rankings after dropping only one game during the regular season, only to be upset on their home floor by Southside in the third round of the playoffs. Southside went on last year to advance to the state title game, where it lost to Hartsville. 

The game will be shown live at the following channels:
