Taylors Elementary Teacher Pamela Jahns Dies

Pamela Jahns, who taught at Taylors Elementary School for more than two decades, passed away Friday.

A Greer woman who made a name for herself as a teacher at Taylors Elementary School died Friday. 

Principal Delaney Sutton confirmed by phone Friday that Pamela Jahns, who taught at Taylors Elementary School for 27 years before retiring two years ago, died Friday. She was 63. 

Sutton said that though Jahns was technically retired, she was still often seen at the school while she lent a helping hand. Counseling will be available to students affected by Jahns' passing, Sutton said.

Born on July 18, 1949 in Cambridge, Massachusetts she was the loving daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Day Shorey Jr. of Greenville, SC.

Pam was an educator for 42 years, 27 of which were at Taylors Elementary School in Greenville County. She also taught science education and curriculum classes to fellow educators at Roper Mountain Science Center. She proudly received her Master's Degree in Childhood Education from Furman University. Her love of family, children and animals were her passion and life's mission.

She is predeceased by her mother, Betty Young Shorey. She is survived by her husband, Tyler William "Rick" Jahns, of the residence, her father, Gregory Day Shorey Jr. of Greenville, her daughter Leia Jahns Webb and husband Ric and her beloved granddaughters Tyler Ashley Shockley and McKenley Grace Webb of Greer; her siblings Gregory Day Shorey III and wife Patty of Greer, Cinthia Shorey White and husband Steve of N. Augusta, and Amy Shorey Grace of Greenville. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews; Jeffery, Taylor, Shelby, Michael, Jordan, and Kristen.

A memorial service celebrating Pam's life will be held at Taylors First Baptist Church, Taylors, SC on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 4 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Girl Scouts of South Carolina at 5 Independence Pointe, Suite 120, Greenville, SC 29615 for a special fund for repairs and maintenance at Camp Wabak. Kindly include her name on donations.
