Sullivan Nabs Republican Liberty Caucus Endorsement

Sullivan continues to rack up endorsements ahead of Feb. 5 run-off.

Chris Sullivan continued to enjoy a stream of endorsements Thursday ahead of the Feb. 5 run-off with Travelers Rest businessman Mike Burns.

Burns enjoyed a sizable lead over the five-man Republican field in the Jan. 22 primary to fill the District 17 seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives, receiving just shy of half the votes. But Sullivan, a longtime political consultant, has landed multiple prominent endorsements just days ahead of his one-on-one matchup with Burns.

The most recent endorsement comes from The Republican Liberty Caucus, whose South Carolina Board of Directors, in consultation with its affiliated Upstate chapter, voted to throw its support in favor of Sullivan.

In a release, the RLC calls Burns and Sullivan two "relatively strong" candidates, but expounds upon its decision to endorse Sullivan based upon the idea that Sullivan may be able to affect greater change in the state legislature.

“Among good candidates, we chose the one who was likely to have the most impact in Columbia,” said Scott Pearson, Chairman of the RLC of South Carolina.

The RLC expressed particular interest in Sullivan’s commitment to reducing the state's tax burden, cutting spending, reforming education and protecting the liberties of South Carolinians from "government abuse."

“We believe that Chris Sullivan is the best person to represent those in the District 17 area,” said Evan Mulch, Chairman of the South Carolina Upstate RLC. “Chris understands what we need to do at the state level to help make South Carolina the freest state in the United States and we understand that we have to get more people like him in office in order to stop the implementation of Obamacare, gun grabs, and other federal government nonsense.”

Sullivan has already enjoyed the public support of third-place finisher Roy Harmon and multiple Upstate legislators.
