Deb Morrow Seeks Democratic Nod for Congress

Would face the popular Trey Gowdy in the general election

With raindrops tricking from her red, white and blue umbrella, Deb Morrow announced her campaign for South Carolina's 4th congressional seat on Thursday morning. The seat is presently held by first-term congressman Trey Gowdy.

Morrow, an Inman resident, said she was inspired to run by grassroots efforts like the Tea Party and Occupy Movement. "Congress' approval ratings are at an all-time low and we can just complain about it or we can do something about it," Morrow said. "I've always been the type of person to do something about it."

Morrow made her announcement in front of the unemployment office in Greenville, which she said symbolized the Republicans failure to promote jobs instead of corporations. "We need to educate our workforce rather than give tax breaks to corporations who bring low-paying jobs to our state," Morrow said. "Unions are demonized here, but the fact is wherever there are unions wages are higher."

If Morrow makes it to the general election shw would face Gowdy, who gained office in 2010 by garnering more than twice the vote of his rivals. But Morrow is undaunted. "I've talked to many people who don't vote because they don't think there's any point. If somebody steps up to represent those people they'll support that person."

Wishful thinking. The 4th District will never elect a Democrat.

I was there when she first announced and really believed she might have a chance against Gowdy, so i volunteered for her campaign. That was the biggest mistake of my life. Maybe District 4 will eventually elect a good Democrat, but that won't happen in this election. Morrow and her small group of supporters will most likely blame the voters of Spartanburg for their own failures. If she can't run a campaign, she isn't qualified to represent the 4th district.

Rick, Liz Patterson was elected to Congress from this district not all that long ago. She is a Democrat. Never is a very long time.
