Update: Taylors Woman Died Before Blaze

Coroner's office confirms she died of natural causes before fire.

Deputy Coroner Kent Dill is reporting that the death of a 74-year-old woman can be attributed to a heart attack, not a fire that led to her discovery.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office and Greenville County Coroner's Office has been investigating the death of a Bobbie Faye Bridwell, who was found dead in her Taylors home Sunday morning as it burned.

At 11:09 a.m. Sunday, a neighbor of Bridwell's called 911 to report a fire at Bridwell's 5565 Mountain View Road home. According to Dill, Bridwell's neighbors had just gotten back from going shopping when they noticed smoke coming from the 74-year-old widow's home.

One of the passersby attempted to enter the home, but the smoke was too thick to safely gain access to residence, Dill said.

Bridwell was declared dead after North Greenville Fire Department responded to the scene. An autopsy Monday revealed Bridwell had heart problems, and that she had died of a coronary incident before the fire began.

Bridwell had been living alone, as her husband died roughly three years ago, Dill said. Greenville County Sheriff's Office's homicide and arson units were both on scene Sunday, per usual protocol for such incidents.
