According to the GCSO, Margie Shaver has been charged with homicide by child neglect. According to the warrants, Margie locked both of her children in a bedroom that was unsanitary and unsafe, and let them play in it unsupervized at the time of the accident.

Furthermore, investigators concluded that the mother did hear the accident, but did not provide any medical care or intervention to try to save the child's life.
