Mother Of Child Killed In Landrum Accident Held Without Bond

Margie Shaver is charged with homicide by child neglect.

The mother of a 2-year-old child who was killed when furniture fell on top of him as he played in a locked bedroom is being held without bond.

No bond was set by the judge during a Thursday afternoon bond hearing for Margie Shaver, 27. Shaver was home with her two children, 2-year-old Chandler Shaver and her 4-year-old daugher when a chest of drawers was pulled down on top of both kids.

Chandler died at the hospital, while his sister was treated for injuries and released to DSS custody. The children had been locked in a filthy bedroom and were playing unsupervized, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Jerome Shaver, 30, was also arrested and charged with unlawful neglect of a child due to the conditions of the home. According to investigators, the home was infested with roaches and rodents, and the floors were covered in dog excrement and urine.
