Marietta Man Convicted of Homicide By Child Abuse

A Marietta man has been sentenced to 62 years in prison for abusing a 20-month-old girl.

James Allen Johnson was convicted of homcide by child abuse June 5, 2013 in Greenville County.

Evidence presented at the trial showed that on May 25, 2011, Johnson had physically abused a 20-month-old child in his care.

The 13th Circuit Solicitor's Office showed that while in Johnson's care, the child had been bruised about her head face and body after having been in his care alone. Johnson had been dating the victim's mother.

On May 25, 2011, Johnson was said to have hit and suffocated the child.

On June 2, Johnson admitted to a deputy with Greenville County Sheriff's Office that he had hit the child in the head with a toy and then covered her nose and mouth because she was crying.

The child was revived by EMS, but died a few days after the incident.
