Former Housekeeper Sentenced for Stealing Employer's Identity

Shirley Ann Rogers, who was employed by slain Eastside couple Gary and Helen Wells, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Anderson. Rogers charges are unrelated to the double murder.

The former housekeeper of a slain Eastside couple has been sentenced for stealing and using her employer's identity.

Shirley Ann Rogers had been charged with defrauding Helen Wells, one of two people murdered on Terramont Drive in October 2012. Rogers' charges are unrelated to the murder.

Rogers was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to six and a half months in prison, the time she has been in pretrial confinement, for fraudulently using another person's debit card without permission, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office. Rogers was sentenced to an additional 24 months for using another person's name and personal identification number to complete the debit card fraud.

After her prison time is completed, the judge has ordered that Rogers serve three years of supervised release and pay $6,100 in restitution.

Rogers pleaded guilty to the charges in February. According to the U.S. Attorney's  Office, Rogers requested a debit card from the bank in 2012. The card was activated via Rogers' cell phone on Sept. 7. Officials said that from Sept. 7 through Sept. 17, Rogers used the victim's name and PIN number to complete 15 transactions and more than $1,000 in goods and services.

In the presence of the victim, Rogers returned the debit card to the bank and admitted to using the card.
