Elderly Woman Struck, Killed While Crossing Road

A 78-year-old Greenville woman was killed Wednesday.

A 78-year-old woman was killed Wednesday when she was hit and killed by a car as she tried to cross a highway on foot. 

The Greenville County Coroner's Office confirmed Naomi Watson died Wednesday night after sustaining major injuries when an SUV hit her. Billy Elder with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Watson was attempting to cross Poinsett Highway less than two miles north of the city of Greenville. 

At roughly 7:23 p.m., Watson was struck by a Jeep headed southbound toward Greenville. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Highway Patrol is investigating. No charges have been filed in the collision.
