UPDATE: Arrest Made In Slater-Marietta Death Investigation

UPDATED AT 6 P.M.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 48-year old Gregory Eugene McCarson in connection with house fire reported early Monday morning at 110 Trammell Road in Slater-Marietta, and for the murder of the person found dead at that location.  

The death investigation has officially been ruled a homicide as a result of the autopsy performed this afternoon.  The victim, who has yet to be identified, is said to have died from blunt force trauma to the head, and was deceased before the residence was set on fire, said Laura Campbell of the GCSO.

Deputies found McCarson in the area of I-85 and 185 at roughly 10 a.m. after he wrecked the victim’s vehicle.  Investigators believe McCarson stole the victim’s vehicle after killing him and setting the victim’s home on fire. 

McCarson is charged with murder and first-degree arson. He is being held at Greenville County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death after a body was discovered at the scene of a fire. 

Shortly after midnight Monday morning, the Slater-Marietta Fire Department responded to a house fire at 110 Trammell Road. By 2 a.m., fire fighters requested an arson investigator and a homicide detective to be dispatched to the scene. 

A body was discovered in the home once the fire was under control. 

The GCSO is investigating the fire and conducting a death investigation. The inquiry is currently active and in its preliminary stages, said Laura Campbell, public information officer for the department. 

The body has not yet been identified.
