Arrest Made In Shooting That Left One Dead, Another Injured

Greenville County deputies have charged a Marietta man in connection with a shooting on Friday afternoon in Marietta, who originally talked to deputies as a witness to the incident.

Greenville County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Marietta man in connection with a shooting Friday afternoon that left one person dead and another injured.

Deputies arrived at 801 Chestnut Ridge Road just after 1:30 p.m. and found a 48-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the upper torso and and second victim, a 48-year-old woman, who was shot in the hand, according to press release.

Deputies said when EMS arrived they pronounced Anthony Wade Alexander dead at the scene. The second victim was transported for her injuries.

Through the investigation, deputies were able to locate and charge 49-year-old Ronnie Joe Skelton of Marietta in connection with the incident.

Skelton had initially talked to deputies as a possible witness in the shooting but during the course of the investigation, deputies were able to determine he was in fact the alleged shooter, deputies said .

Skelton is charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

He is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.

The sheriff's office K-9 tracking team was called out to the scene, where they began searching for the suspect. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search with its heliocopter, at that time officers were unable to find the suspect.
