Services Planned for Families Killed in Plane Crash

The Antonakos and McManus families will be remembered at upcoming memorial services at Christ Church Episcopal.

Two Greenville families who were killed in a plane crash in Alaska Sunday will be remembered at memorial services this week.

On Sunday, Melet and Kim Antonakos and their children, Ana, Mills and Olivia, along with Dr. Chris and Stacey McManus and their children Meghan and Connor, were killed when the small plane they were flying in crashed at Soldotna airport. The pilot also died in the crash. 

Christ Church Episcopal, where both families attended church, has scheduled two memorial services to celebrate their lives.

A candlelight service for the youth of the community, which honors and celebrates the lives of Olivia, Mills, Ana, Meghan, and Connor, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at Christ Church in the All Saints Center.

The parish said that youth groups from First Presbyterian Church, Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and other youth groups from the area will participate in the service. 

A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12 at Christ Church to honor both families. Services will be held in the church with a video feed to Markley Chapel. Fellowship time will follow the service.

A candlelight service was held for the Antonakos family on Tuesday at the Gower Estates Pool, where the children were involved in the swim team.
