Obituary: Wesley L. Neely of Greer

A "celebration of life" service for Neely will be held Tuesday at Taylors First Baptist Church.

"Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands, (2 Cor. 5:1 NIV)" 

Wesley Lawton Neely, husband of the late Jean Littlejohn Neely, died Friday, March 8, 2013. He was born March 17, 1932, in Spartanburg County, and was the son of the late K.E. and Mamie Lawton Neely. He was a graduate of Wofford College, a Veteran of the U.S. Army during Korean War, an Eagle Scout and former owner of Neely's Inc. in Greenville, S.C. Mr. Neely was an active Realtor in the Greenville area and a faithful member at Taylors First Baptist Church for 52 years, where he served in so many different capacities it is impossible to adequately mention.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and brother. 

Surviving is six sons, Jim and his wife Sheri of Chapin; Jeff and his wife Cathy of Greer, Paul and his wife DeAnna of Greenville, Bruce, Les and his wife Helen and Cam all of Greer; fifteen grandchildren, Ruston, Kendra, Aubrey, Jonathan and his wife Katy, Laura Beth Comer and her husband, Blake, Meredith Payne and her husband Wellington, Jeffrey, Joseph, Caroline, Tyler and his wife Austin, Kyle, Elizabeth Stewart and her husband Greg, Catherine, Wesley and Rebekah ; four great-grandchildren, Honor Neely, Neely Comer, Gray Neely and Jackson Comer; one sister Ann Bishop and her husband David; and one brother, Herbert Neely and his wife Jackie.

The celebration of life service for Mr. Neely will be held on Tuesday, March 12th, at 3:00 p.m. at Taylors First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Jimmie Harley, Rev. Paul Jimenez and Dr. Kirk Neely. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jonathan, Tyler, Ruston, Kyle, Jeffrey, Joseph and Wesley.

Honorary escort will be the Couples #27 Sunday School class.

The family will receive friends 1:00-2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gathering Space at Taylors First Baptist Church.

The family is at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Lottie Moon Offering, Taylors First Baptist Church, 200 West Main Street, Taylors, S.C. 29687 or the Greer Christian Learning Center, P.O. Box 2013, Greer, S.C. 29652.
