Greer Council Talks Smoking Ban
The city of Greer is passes tobacco-free parks and recreation facilities pass first reading of ordinance
The city of Greer has passed on first reading an ordinance that would ban smoking from parks and recreation facilities this week, The Greenville News reports. On Thursday, Greer took the first steps toward banning tobacco use in city parks and within 25 feet of a city-owned recreation or park facility.
Council members Wayne Griffin, Kimberly Bookert, Judy Albert and Mayor Rick Danner voted for it, and Jay Arrowood and Lee Dumas voted against. Councilman
The city would be able to enforce the ban “by determining appropriate disciplinary actions for violators,” according to the ordinance. Violators could be asked to leave the park, lose park privileges or be prosecuted for disorderly conduct after repeat offenses, which carry a fine of $500 to $1,000.
