Earshot to Launch "The Sound"

The Sound is about what is happening this week in music.

Earshot, located at 1417 Laurens Road, is launching a new service this week called The Sound.

“The Sound is about what is happening this week in music,” said Jack Dennis, owner of Earshot. “It is all the things that people in the Upstate need to know about the latest records.”

The Sound will focus weekly on hot releases in the world of modern music, classic albums that made history and what is playing inside Earshot’s location.

Michael Franti & Spearhead’s “All People,” which features the hit song "I'm Alive (Life Sounds Like).” This week’s Spotlight Release of the Week: Alela Diane’s “About Farewell.”

“About Farewell” addresses the heartache and renewal that follow a failed marriage.

“The most devastating thing Alela Diane sings on her new album — and there are many — goes like this: ‘I heard somebody say / That the brightest lights /  Cast the biggest shadows / So honey, I’ve got to let you go,’” Dennis said.

The Sound’s Tribute Album of the Week is The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Siamese Dream,” which was released 20 years ago this week. This was a seminal album in the early 1990s grunge scene, and helped make The Smashing Pumpkins MTV staples. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 362 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

Album’s being played inside the Earshot store this week include:

  • Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (For Fans of Dance, Pop, Electronica, features the hit Get Lucky)
  • Savages - Silence Yourself (For Fans of Post-Punk, Indie Rock)
