What? South Carolina Missed Cut in Money's 100 Best Cities to Live
Sound off in our comments section and tell us what cities in South Carolina you think should have made the list.
On Monday, Money magazine released the "Top 100 Best Places to Live," but there's something's missing — a South Carolina presence.
The annual list, which compares small cities across America, named Carmel, Ind., the best place to live.
Our neighbors to the north made it on the list with Chapel Hill, N.C.
Rounding out the top 10:
- Carmel, Ind.
- McKinney, Texas
- Eden Prairie, Minn.
- Newton, Mass.
- Redmond, Wash.
- Irvine, Calif.
- Reston, Va.
- Columbia/Ellicott City, Md.
- Overland Park, Kan.
- Chapel Hill, N.C.
The full list is available online and will also be published in Money's September issue, which hits newsstands this Friday.
South Carolina has plenty of beautiful places from which to choose.
Could you make an argument for a South Carolina city to be added to the list or is Money magazine right to not include South Carolina? Tell us in the comments below.

I don't see how South Carolina could make it onto this list. There are very little jobs, high health care costs, high personal property taxes and a high cost for healthy grocery store options (milk, cheese, quality meat....), just to name few. In addition, the unemployment rate is not improving, overall health of South Carolina residents is poor and the cost of living in one of the better rated school districts is relatively high. The fact that South Carolina was "overlooked" by Money magazine does not come as a shock.

Print mags are trying to hang on with "Best 100..." stories that dont reveal much that is not public knowledge.
Our editors comment, on the other hand,....

I was wondering how a city could be in the Top 10 one year and then fall completely out of the Top 100 two years later. That seems unusual.

Fine with me, let's keep it a secret so no one else wants to move here! The traffic in Mount Pleasant is bad enough!

Carol, I was there just a two weeks ago and can't believe how different the traffic pattern is now. Mount Pleasant, Sullivan's Island and IOP used to be the best kept secret in South Carolina. It's gotten busy over there. I'm just thankful I knew the old way off the IOP and didn't have to sit in the line of cars waiting to get on the IOP Connector, after a storm popped up and ran everyone off the beach.

In my opinion, there were several opportunities for S.C. to be named. Many areas in and around Charleston should have made the list i.e. Sullivan's Island, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island. Greenville and Greer in the Upstate. Maybe they consider many of our areas to rural?

@W.T. - I was referring to the fact that last year's winner -- it was in Colorado -- didn't even make the top 100 this year.

I love living in Charleston, but given our crime statistics and our "revolving door" legal system, I am not at all surprised.

What were their criteria? Arbitrary lists are fun!
