Upstate Man Charged With Endangering Child

Nude man found carrying, biting his infant son on Highway 25.

An Upstate man faces charges after he was found walking nude with his 13-month-old son along Highway 25 near Travelers Rest.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office has charged and arrested 24-year-old Anthony Michael Hedger of 134 Carman Trail with unlawful neglect of a child following the April 6 incident, in which he also is alleged to have bitten the child while deputies attempted to secure the boy.

According to an arrest warrant, the GCSO received several calls about an adult white male walking on the side of North Highway 25 nude and holding a small child that was also nude. The subject was seen walking into the flow of traffic while still holding the child.

The callers were able to maintain visual contact of the subject until deputies arrived on scene. Deputies made contact with Hedger in the wood line near Highway’s 25 and 414. Deputies began to secure the child from Hedger’s grasp and he intentionally bit the child on his left shoulder causing visible redness and bruising, the warrants alleged.

The child was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital to be evaluated and was later released to his mother. Hedger was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital by ambulance for mental evaluation.

Hedger was being held Monday in the Greenville County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
