Soap Stars Auction Their Jerseys For Taylors Youth Association

"Days Into Night" brings stars from television soap opera "Days of Our Lives" to Greenville for one final fundraiser.

During the "Days Into Night" cast party on Saturday at Greenville Hilton, fans had a chance to bid on jerseys worn by the stars of "Days of Our Lives," and to help raise money for the Taylors Youth Association.

A few lucky fans like Austin Mahlandt got a chance not only to buy the jersey, but to take it off a star like Nadia Bjorlin.

"You did that too well," Bjorlin said to Austin, who was trying not to blush.

"My wife comes every year," said Scott Mahlandt, Austin's father. "We came last year with her and Austin got to meet Nadia. He wanted to come back for their last event this year."

Mahlandt said they bid $500 for the jersey and he is glad that it will help the Taylors Youth Association.

"It goes to a good cause and it's a fun event," Mahlandt said.

Austin and his family had pictures made with Bjorlin, got the jersey signed and then enjoyed mingling with the actress for a few minutes. And, Austin even walked away with a kiss on the cheek.

Actor Shawn Christian, who plays Dr. Daniel Jonas, auctioned his own jersey off. He threw in the opportunity for the lucky buyer to have him follow them on Twitter and send them a "tweet," to see personal photos on his cell phone and enjoy a "slow peel" as he took his jersey off.

Christian worked the crowd, shaking hands with people who put up bids and talking to the kids around the stage.

"I know how to play this game," Christian said. "If you are scratching your nose, you just placed a bid!"

And to a photographer nearby, "Are you taking a photo or do you want this jersey?"

Actress Molly Burnett, who plays Melanie Jonas, took the easy way out. She told someone for just $400 she would follow them on Twitter, sign the jersey and tell them some "show secrets."

The lucky buyer paid up and Burnett shed her jersey and found a nice quiet place in the floor to autograph it.

Casey Deidrick, who plays Chad DiMera, used his cunning family to try and hawk his jersey for a higher price.

"We'll start the bidding at $4,000," he laughed. "OK, a $1."

Deidrick worked the room going up and down aisles talking to fans.

"You know, I'm E.J.'s brother," he said. "This jersey has my cologne on it, probably a little bit of my sweat."

Before the jersey sold the highest bidder, Deidrick had promised in addition to the jersey, following the person on Twitter and "tweeting" to them, a kiss with a lick, and a hug.

The jersey sold and the lucky winner didn't care how much it cost, she was blushing as soon as Deidrick got to her.

This is the last year the Taylors Youth Association will hold the fundraiser.
