Sheriff's Office Investigating Robbery on Pleasantburg
Wade Hampton area convenience store targeted by unidentified suspect.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is investigating the Wednesday morning armed robbery of a convenience store.
At approximately 10:40 a.m., an unidentified black male wearing a dark bandana entered the Citgo at at 2020 North Pleasantburg Drive at the intersection of Rutherford Road. The clerk told police the suspect brandished a gun and demanded money.
He then fled from the scene in a vehicle the clerk could not provide a description for, according to Zach Hinton, public information officer. Officers were still canvassing surrounding areas Wednesday, though by noon the convenience store was back to normal business operations. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The suspect was described as a black male, standing around 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and weighing roughly 140 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie, with a white shirt over it, tan pants and grey gloves.
The clerk who manning the counter at the time of the robbery was still working Wednesday afternoon, but declined to speak to Patch.
The site of the robbery is roughly a mile from Wade Hampton High School and Sevier Middle School, though the Greenville County School District has not sent out any alerts regarding additional security measures such as a lockdown in response to the wanted suspect. Oby Lyles, communications director for the district, did say officials were in contact with the Sheriff's Office about the matter.
"Law enforcement was in contact, and kept us updated," Lyles said. "As a precaution, we were on heightened alert."
