The Greenville County Sheriff's Office arrested a 13-year-old boy Wednesday at Sevier Middle School after he allegedly brought a weapon onto school grounds.
According to a release from the GCSO, at around 2:40 p.m., school resource officer at Sevier was notified by a school official that it had been rumored that the 13-year-old white male in question had a weapon in his book bag.
When confronted by the school resource officer and school officials about the weapon, he reportedly admitted to having it, and turned over his bag.
"A Sevier Middle School student brought a plastic air soft gun to school on Tuesday and presented it to other students as if it were a real weapon," said Susan Clarke, communications director for the Greenville County School District. "The students immediately reported the incident to adults, who took the item and contacted law enforcement. The student has been suspended pending an expulsion hearing."
Law enforcement determined no BB's were loaded in the gun. The child was then turned over to his parents. His case on charges of possession of a weapon on school property and breach of peace of will be handled by Family Court.
The breach of peace charge is related to comments the child made to another student while removing the gun from his bag.
