Second Taylors Cleanup Planned for May 25

The group will pick up litter and other debris along Reid School Road.

The organizer of a recent community cleanup hopes to make the effort a monthly event.

Rayshawn Johnson has scheduled the next Taylors cleanup for May 25.

Johnson, who grew up in Taylors, says the area needs regular participation from citizens to keep litter in the community under control.

"This gives people a chance to get out and work shoulder to shoulder," Johnson said. "Everyone in the community from your average citizen to business owners should have a reason to want to clean up Taylors."

This month, Johnson said the group will focus their attention on Reid School Road and Edwards Mills Road.

Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at Taylors Elementary School.

Last month, Johnson said 17 volunteers came out to help cleanup Main Street Taylors. He said the volunteers were split in to groups of four to tackle more of the area.

"One team cleared off more than 50 pounds of debris from the Main Street bridge," Johnson said.

One team cleared trash on Main Street. Another team hauled off two pick-up loads of trash on Freeman Drive. And a third team hauled off more than two loads of trash near the entrance of West Main.

Johnson said that Twin Chimney landfill donated trash bags, gloves and volunteer vests to be used in the effort. Greater Greenville Sanitation loaned pick up sticks, trash bags and a dumpster for the group to use.
