Opponent Shutters Twitter Account After Rep. Gowdy Called 'Homo'

Deb Morrow, a Democratic candidate for the 4th U.S. Congressional District, shuttered the account after a former staffer referred to Congressman Trey Gowdy as a homosexual in two different tweets.

It was the tweet heard around South Carolina and leaked to state media that caused one congressional candidate to shut down her Twitter account.

Democratic candidate Deb Morrow, who is running against Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy for the 4th U.S. Congressional seat, closed her Morrow4Congress Twitter account after two tweets allegedly were sent calling Gowdy a homosexual.

According to two screen shots sent to Patch, one tweet ready “@TGowdySC is a Homo,” and a second Tweet that called Gowdy "the homo lover" of U.S. Sen. Lindsay Graham.

The screen shots were sent to local media by Washington, D.C.-based social media consultant Sean Bertran, who said he was monitoring tweets on the Fast and Furious case when he saw the tweets.

Josh Dix, a spokesman for Gowdy, said the congressman felt that the tweet was an accident and that his office would prefer not to comment on the situation.

Morrow could not be reached for comment.

However, Morrow did tell the Free Times in Columbia, she did not post the tweet and wasn't aware that it had appeared on her campaign website.

Morrow told the paper that she has shut down the account and that only a handful of people had access to the account, including a former staffer.

Last May, Gowdy compared same-sex marriage to incest and polygamy during a House Judiciary Committee.
