Opponent Shutters Twitter Account After Rep. Gowdy Called 'Homo'

Deb Morrow, a Democratic candidate for the 4th U.S. Congressional District, shuttered the account after a former staffer referred to Congressman Trey Gowdy as a homosexual in two different tweets.

It was the tweet heard around South Carolina and leaked to state media that caused one congressional candidate to shut down her Twitter account.

Democratic candidate Deb Morrow, who is running against Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy for the 4th U.S. Congressional seat, closed her Morrow4Congress Twitter account after two tweets allegedly were sent calling Gowdy a homosexual.

According to two screen shots sent to Patch, one tweet ready “@TGowdySC is a Homo,” and a second Tweet that called Gowdy "the homo lover" of U.S. Sen. Lindsay Graham.

The screen shots were sent to local media by Washington, D.C.-based social media consultant Sean Bertran, who said he was monitoring tweets on the Fast and Furious case when he saw the tweets.

Josh Dix, a spokesman for Gowdy, said the congressman felt that the tweet was an accident and that his office would prefer not to comment on the situation.

Morrow could not be reached for comment.

However, Morrow did tell the Free Times in Columbia, she did not post the tweet and wasn't aware that it had appeared on her campaign website.

Morrow told the paper that she has shut down the account and that only a handful of people had access to the account, including a former staffer.

Last May, Gowdy compared same-sex marriage to incest and polygamy during a House Judiciary Committee.

While questioning Attorney General Eric Holder, Gowdy asked why the administration would be willing to apply a higher level of scrutiny to laws that prohibit gay people from marrying as opposed to other kind of marriage arrangements that could include family members or multiple spouses.

There is just no end to stupidity. I am a Democrat and proud of it, but things like this make me sick. Didn't your parents teach you anything. So sorry. Pathetic. There is no excuse for that sort of language.

No excuse for tasteless comments and accusations. If you can't play fair, get out of the game.

Don't fall for the hype. It's obvious their account was taken over by someone. More than likely GOP supporter. This is how it's done these days. Discredit both folks with two tweets. Especially seeing this is in SC.

Yes, the tweet was pathetic. But to think the candidate herself posted it? Seriously? That's more insulting that the term "homo". Think smart. Analyze.

Look Sean. I realize you're 22 and a yr. after being an assistant for a fundraising group taught you everything you need to know to start your social media consulting firm a month ago. But grabbing a screenshot of a hacked account doesn't make you a better consultant. Registering Imlucky_2 a couple of hours ago to reply to me so the comment isn't linked to you doesn't change that.

Glad Ms. Morrow will not stoop to GOTP-type tactics.

However, being called a homo is one of the nicer things that could be said about Gowdy.

The folks that did it sound like script-kiddies. Seriously, calling someone a homo - please. Probably social engineered or guessed the password. There are tons of other ways this is done.

I don't have a dog in this race - I'm not in SC & never lived there. Just noticed an obvious smear campaign by a 22 yr. old fresh out of college - just created a social media consulting company kid. It is odd that he was there just in time to screen cap the event & ran with it everywhere to spread his version of the story.

He needs a few more years under his belt to learn how the Internet really works. I've been at the game for 17 years. Nearly his entire life. ;-)

It is sad that anyone would use that as a slur - a person's gender orientation is what it is. Besides, I am a homo, and a homo-lover, being human and a lover of humans.

Gowdy is a closeted, bigoted POS.

While I have issues with Trey Gowdy, I have resolved not to run for Morrow, as she is incompetent and is not a person of integrity as I once thought. I do not believe anyone on the campaign was responsible for the alleged tweets; however, some new developments in the Morrow campaign have given me a good reason not to trust anything Morrow or the campaign says. I am a former volunteer and the campaign has tried to bully me into silence. If Morrow cannot run a campaign, she has no business running for Congress.
