Laurens County GOP Requires Purity Pledge

S.C. county requires candidates to make pledge to get on ballot

The Republican Party in one South Carolina county adjusted its policies last week to require candidates to sign pledges asserting that they live up to certain conservative principles, according to The Clinton Chronicle.

The Laurens County GOP added 28 "principles of Republicanism" to a pledge that a candidate must sign in order to be on a Republican primary ballot there.

Some of the required pledge items include:

You must oppose abortion, in any circumstances.

You must uphold the right to have guns, all kinds of guns.

You must endorse the idea of a balanced state and federal budget, whatever it takes, even if your primary responsibility is to be sure the county budget is balanced.

You must favor, and live up to, abstinence before marriage.

You must be faithful to your spouse. Your spouse cannot be a person of the same gender, and you are not allowed to favor any government action that would allow for civil unions of people of the same sex.

You cannot now, from the moment you sign this pledge, look at pornography.

Once candidates sign the pledge, they must also interview in front of a three-person committee in order to secure a place on the ballot.

The new policy passed Feb. 28 with unanimous support of the party's executive committee, according to the article.

South Carolina GOP Chairman Chad Connelly said he felt certain measures were required to prevent Democrats from running on the Republican ticket.

"You can't keep them from filing, legally," Connelly said of potential Republican candidates. "But we should be able to ask, 'What do you believe in, and why.'"

IOW, they want bigots who hate the same people that they do. They want candidates who are anti-women's rights. They want candidates that are not human since no human can live up to that ideal. If this is what the Republican party is coming to in this nation, it deserves to quickly die out.

I just fell off my chair laughing! What will prevent anyone from doing these things? Republicans do them all! Are they going to spy on people to be sure they abide by this pledge?

I feel fortunate that I don't live in that area. The Republican Party is so becoming the party of social engineering. These people are only verifying that these people are out of touch with the Amerian people by attempting to coerce their beliefs upon others.

They should put a pledge in there that they won't marry their mother or sister - sounds like there has already been quite of bit of that among the authors of this pathetic 'pledge'.

Sounds like the Republican Party is showing their true beliefs just like the Taliban. Pretty soon the woman will be required to cover their heads and not be seen out without a male escort. I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would be voting for a Republican. I think the entire party has gone insane. I think this is the Middle east sending people over here to pose as Americans. Anyone voting for a Republican should be ashamed of themselves.

I think I have the answer. When you have an orgasim there is a surge of oxytocin released. Oxytocin calms the mental facilities, helps regulate the g.I.tract, even makes you more social. If they have to sign a pledge basically wiping out masturbation to porn, then no orgasim, thus no surge of oxytocin. If they are gay then no sex, again no surge of oxytocin. No birth control so no sex with the spouse unless you want a brood of offspring. Basically no orgasim ever unless you're procreating. With all of this lack of orgasim in the republican party I theorize they are either I same or constipated because of low oxytocin levels. I have the cure for the g.o.p. oxytocin. If they won't masturbate or have sex they do sell oxytocin candles and in nasal spray.

Hmmm! The psychodynamics of the principles listed here are really kind of unmistakeable. I mean, think about it: Sex, Guns, and Money. Were Freud still alive, is there any doubt but that he would set up a research center in Laurens County?

On second thought, make that a research & treatment center.

Memo to Chad Connelly:

Re the Tolstoy-sized addendum of 28 "principles of Republicanism" tacked on to all of the previously-existing "principles of Republicanism" by the Laurens County GOP...

1. Exactly when did the national office of the Grand Old Party ask those smooth, cosmopolitan, GQ-reading, Dos Equis-drinking metro-sexuals in Laurens County to revise and extend the, uh, "Principles of Republicanism?"

2. Have you given any thought to the possibility that agreeing to and signing a pledge to abide by the, uh, "Principles of Republicanism" as devised by the, uh, GOP "kingmakers" in Laurens County and then agreeing to appear before and have one's personal life dissected by a three-person Inquisition Court appointed by the, uh, GOP "kingmakers" in Laurens County might in and of itself be grounds for disqualifying a potential candidate for public office? I mean, really, what whole, integrated, conscious person would go through that in order to be elected to the Laurens County Water & Sewer Commission?

3. Given the psychological profile--repressed, depressed, anal retentive, conflicted by authoritarian/anti-authority inclinations, given to sexual/violence-oriented fantasizing (in 3-D)--of those potential GOP candidates who would most likely respond to and qualify for candidacy on the basis of your new, futuristic "Principles of Republicanism," might I suggest soliciting(?) candidates through the Personals Section of Craigslist.

So all of you socialist are against principles? You want to be told by the some liberal weakling that our founders had it wrong? That our creator has it wrong, You would rather walk through this life rewarding your own flesh? Just one whiney complaint after another--the load of you make no good sense.

Took quite a long time before someone took up the mantle. I guess we shouldn't be surprised that you couldn't manage to post correctly.

How can you defend a party pledge that could easily cause an elected official to dishonor their oath of office, and in the case of federal officials, their oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States? You know, if you don't like America you can just leave.

JoSch, looks like everything posted just fine. Thanks for your concern. And look up it wasn't I who speaks out against freedom. This fight is bigger than an oath. I'm not sure an oath is what keeps any of us honorable rather its morals. I don't have an issue with any one of the stated beliefs. And all I read here is a buch of general whining. What is it you have in your life or personal moral code that conflicts with these? Let's discuss one by one but I have no time for petty name calling or the meaness of wanting to boot someone who happens to disagree with you.

This is very sad. When are the Republicans going to take accountable for their utter lack of leadership running our state, and start concentrating on: JOBS, INFRASTRUCTURE, PUBLIC EDUCATION????

Tonto, surely you are not expecting us to take seriously "Sheriff Joe" and his press conference per the "conclusions" reached by his "all-volunteer cold-case posse" regarding the president's birth certificate and selective service card.

Tonto, a good, patriotic American like you could never, I'm sure, tenet anyone--even and especially a, well, law enforcement officer--intentionally violating the document that good, patriotic Americans (like you, like me) hold dear: The United States Constitution.

Tonto, Sheriff Joe has already been accused by the U.S. Justice Dept. of egregiously violating the constitutional rights of individuals--right to privacy, right to due process among them--on almost innumerable occasions. He is also being investigated by the Justice Dept. for malicious prosecution, misuse of campaign funds, and on and on and on.

He is also being questioned as to why, during a three-year period surrounding 2005, over 2,000 sex-crime charges in his county were simply ignored. Tonto, Maricopa County became a free-pass playground for sexual predators. Does that not bother you?

All of that, along with other really unfortunate actions and statements, means that a lot of intelligent people simply will not take seriously anything this biased bigot has to say about anything. Tonto, a lot of people in Maricopa County wish that Sheriff Joe had 1/100th the decency, basic humanity, concern for true justice, and leadership qualities possessed by Barack Obama.

Doggone it, Tonto, you ruined my day when you said that. Even though you might have to stand in line to cast the vote that cancels mine--lots of people, including most of my friends, want to be able to say that they cancelled my vote.

In the end, tho, I doubt that whoever gets elected is going to change the way things are for either of us. It is probably good that we both care more about how a president impacts on the country/world as a whole than about how a president impacts on us.

It's also good that we can disagree and, when all is said and done, go out there and pull for those Gamecocks! You are a Gamecock fan, aren't you? I mean, you aren't a Tiger fan, are you? If you are, all that good stuff I said about you is cancelled. I mean, politics is interesting to talk about but Carolina v. Clemson is life-and-death stuff. Of course, we could still be able to say that at least we aren't Georgia fans. You aren't a Georgia fan, are you? :)

Also no masturbation and no kissing before marriage. No pants for women and no showing of the face or skin of legs or shoulders as that can be a temptation of the flesh. GOP should also require mandatory prayer at least an hour per day. Those failing to abide should submit to stoning.

Thanks for your short and to-the-point take on all of this, Karen. I appreciate those who are willing to call out their own political party when it engages in what could only be characterized as, well, bovine defecation---your word is much more effective, but I am always afraid my mother might read this. I spend a lot more time calling out weak, quaking and quivering Democrats (my party) than I do Republicans.
