Oppressive heat of higher than 100 degrees couldn't keep the citizens of Greer from celebrating their nation's independence at the Freedom Blast, sponsored by Greer Memorial Hospital.

The event, which lasted from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., included fireworks, inflatable play areas for kids, a pie-eating contest, musical entertainment, and a variety of food vendors to choose from.

Greer City Park will also hold another Independence Day celebration on Sunday, as Taylors First Baptist Church will hold its Patriotic Celebration from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Food, inflatable play areas and musical entertainment will be available.
