Bus For Special Needs Students Catches Fire

No one injured in incident.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is investigating a fire that totaled a Greenville County School bus Friday used to transport special education students.

Oby Lyles, communications director for the Greenville County School District, said the bus caught fire at the Waddell Road bus center in the Wade Hampton area of Greenville.

The bus was pulling into the parking lot when the fire began. As a result of the fire, other buses that transport special education students had a strong smoke odor and were not used the rest of the day.

The district re-routed buses throughout the rest of the day, and the damaged buses will be back in service Monday, Lyles said.
