Several media outlets in the Upstate had reports of a large boom and bright lights streaking across the sky.
The boom was heard and felt in parts of Georgia, in the upstate of South Carolina and western North Carolina.
According to WYFF, the National Weather Service said it began receiving calls about 2 a.m.
The story said that after checking the security tapes at the National Weather service, they saw a bright light in the sky around 1:42 a.m.
Spartanburg County reported receiving more than 70 calls on the incident, according to the report.
On the Fox Carolina Facebook page, viewers reported the noise sounded as if something had hit their house, while others said they slept through it.
WSPA's Amy Wood tweeted, "I heard it. Thought someone was breaking in a basement door!!!"

Yes, the boom sounded like a car door but as if it was in our house. My dog jumped up and we both went outside to look and saw nothing. I checked the garage thinking something might have fallen. Does anybody know what it was?

I heard it in Landrum, and it made my dog bark. I thought something hit the house. There were two more after the loud one just not as loud.
